Lots of new Gatsos have been installed in Cheshire. This one on the A534 was destroyed by fire shortly afterwards.

This Gatso has been burnt to death

This rear view shows how the yellow backing has completely melted leaving a charcoal effect.

This Gatso has been burnt to death

Several new Gatsos were installed at various locations around Runcorn. They were all given a nice green colour scheme with yellow stripes. Several months later two of these cameras were set alight. This is the one on the A56 at Preston Brook.

Burnt out Gatso

This is the rear view of the same camera which shows how the yellow stripes have melted.

Burnt out Gatso

This is the third Gatso to be set alight in Runcorn. It was attacked some time before this picture was taken and the post has had time to rust. Meanwhile the remaining cameras have had their stripy colour scheme changed to plain yellow in order to comply with the regulations on visibility. One of these can be seen in the distance, the post remains green.

Another burnt out Gatso

This is the latest camera to be torched in Runcorn. That trendy green paint doesn't seem to wear well.

Burnt Gatso

This shows the base of the last picture. At least two tyres were used in the attack.

This is how most Gatso fires start

This Gatso on the A562 near Widnes has been burnt then cut down.

Wrecked Gatso

This is a well burnt Gatso but the post and the side arm seem to have escaped damage.

Burnt Gatso

This burnt Gatso is on the A24 in Sussex.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso on the A412 at Denham in Buckinghamshire is well baked. All the lenses have shattered in the heat.

Well burnt

This Gatso on the A236 at Mitcham Common must have been an inferno to cause this amount of damage. Only a small area of yellow is still intact.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso on the A2 near Bexley has been well and truly gutted.

Wrecked beyond repair

This is another burnt out Gatso on the A2 near Bexley. This one was attacked just months after the one above.

Burnt Gatso

This picture of a burnt Gatso on Rochester Way was taken on the same day as the one above. Several Gatsos in the area have been destroyed in recent months.

Burnt Gatso

Here's a closeup of the well baked camera housing.

Burnt Gatso

This is the remains of a Gatso on the A38 at Norton in Gloucestershire. All that is left is ash from the burning inferno.

The aftermath of a fire

This burnt Gatso is on the A38 at Whitminster in Gloucestershire where the speed limit was recently cut from 50mph to just 40mph. Its not surprising that someone has decided to put it out of action.

Another wrecked Gatso

This Gatso is on the A303 near Ilminster. This is a five mile stretch of road without a single junction or side road. Such locations can only be used for revenue purposes and as a result, someone has decided to torch it. Unfortunately there isn't that much damage and the camera housing appears to be unaffected.

This Gatso has got away with minor damage

This Gatso on the A523 between Leek and Ashbourne has been covered up following an arson attack.

Burnt Gatso

This partially burnt Gatso is on the A697 north of the border.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso on the A1 Berwick Bypass has been torched. The ground is covered in ash.

Burnt Gatso

This is looking the other way. A bag has been placed over the burnt remains of the camera housing. The red sticker states this camera is alarmed to the police station but I doubt this is true.

Burnt Gatso

This burnt Gatso is in the village of Kings Langley in Hertfordshire.

Burnt Gatso

This burnt Gatso is on the A128 near Brentwood in Essex. The ground below is covered in ash.

Another wrecked Gatso

Here's another Essex camera to be torched. This one is on the B172 at Theydon Bois.

Wrecked Gatso

This is the same camera as the one above taken after it was burnt again.

Burnt again

This burnt Gatso is on Lower Luton Road in Wheathampstead. The middle window containing the radar is completely destroyed.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso in Harefield has only been up for about a year. Gatsos tend to live short lives these days.

Burnt Gatso

This is the other Gatso in Harefield. Both cameras have now been torched.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso in Cambridge has been burnt and I'm not surprised since its hidden amongst trees.

Burnt Gatso

This is yet another burnt out Gatso. This one is on the A429 in Gloucestershire where the speed limit was recently cut to 50mph. The tyre which was used to start the fire can be seen below.

Another burnt out Gatso

This Gatso on the B2032 near Walton on the Hill in Surrey is looking very sorry for itself and so it should as the speed limit on this road has been slashed to 40mph. Two Gatsos were installed on this road - both were destroyed again a year later, see below.

Another burnt out Gatso

This is the same Gatso a year later and its been torched again.

Burnt again

This is the other Gatso on the B2032 and at the time of writing the Gatso above is still a burnt out shell meaning both cameras are now out of action.

Wrecked Gatso

This burnt Gatso is on the nearby A217 in Banstead, Surrey. This camera was destroyed at the same time as the one above.

Burnt Gatso

Here's another burnt out Gatso on the A217. This one is in Kingswood. Virtually every Gatso in this area has been destroyed by arsonists.

Burnt Gatso

This is another burnt out Gatso on the A217. This one near Sutton is completely destroyed like the rest of them.

Burnt Gatso

This is yet another burnt out Gatso on the A217. This one is on Reigate Hill.

Another burnt out Gatso

Here's a closer view showing the wrecked camera housing.

Another burnt out Gatso

This is one of two Gatsos on the A24 at Morden which were set alight. This one came off worst and is totally beyond repair. The debris on the ground speaks for itself.

Wrecked Gatso

Here's a closeup of the camera housing showing the burnt remains.

Another Gatso for the scrap heap

This is the other Gatso on the A24. The fire didn't take hold properly but the sides of the flash have been bent.

This Gatso had a lucky escape

This fried Gatso is on the A24 near Morden. The advert behind is showing off a high powered car.

Another burnt out Gatso

This Gatso on the A3 near Kingston is well and truly baked.

Thanks to Chris for the picture

This Gatso on the nearby A243 near Chessington is equally well done.

Thanks to Chris for the picture

Here's a closeup showing the wreckage.

Thanks to Chris for the picture

This burnt Gatso is on New Kent Road near Bricklayers Arms in Central London. Whoever did this must have some guts as this is a busy area.

Gatsos in busy areas aren't immune to vandals

This Gatso on the A20 near Eltham has suffered partial burning.

Burnt Gatso

This is another Gatso on the same road and is less than a mile from the one above. This one suffered more severe damage as smoke can be seen on the top of the post. The camera housing has presumably been taken away and scrapped.

Burnt Gatso

This well baked Gatso is in the village of Willingham in Cambridgeshire.

Another burnt out Gatso

This Gatso on the A69 near Hexham has been set alight. Only the post and the flash appear to be damaged.

Burnt Gatso

Here's a view from the other side.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso in Norfolk looks well and truly fried. A tyre was used to start the fire which can still be seen attached to the post.

Thanks to Chris for the picture

This is a close up showing the damage. This Gatso also happened to contain a working camera, one of only four in Norfolk which are moved around the 14 camera sites.

Thanks to Chris for the picture

The above camera was replaced shortly afterwards but within a month it was torched again. The damage isn't so severe this time.

This Gatso was set alight twice within a month

This is the latest camera to be attacked in Norfolk. At this rate it won't be long before every Gatso in Norfolk will have been vandalised.

Burnt Gatso

This Truvelo in Bedfordshire has been set alight, probably started by setting fire to the tyre. There must be serious damage to the camera housing for it to have been covered up.

Fire damaged Truvelo

This Truvelo in Westoning, Bedfordshire has also been torched. Once again a blue bag has been placed over it.

Torched Truvelo

This is another Bedfordshire Truvelo thats been torched. This one is in the village of Great Barford.

Burnt Truvelo

This Truvelo on Bunkers Hill in Lincoln has been burnt. The dark patch on the pavement is soot and ash. The reason for the camera's destruction may be the recent speed limit cut from 40mph to 30mph.

Burnt Truvelo

This Truvelo on Burton Road in Derby has been beheaded. This is the latest in a series of attacks on cameras in the city.

Wrecked Truvelo

This newly installed Truvelo on the A21 near Tonbridge has been set alight. Only this side of the camera housing is damaged.

Burnt Truvelo

This Truvelo on the A20 in Kent was installed at the same time as the one above. It too was burnt shortly afterwards.

Burnt Truvelo

This front view shows the scorched ground near the base of the post. The camera was installed to protect a side road which is just visible to the right. However, many accidents at this sort of location are caused by people turning right who fail to judge the speed of approaching traffic. The authorities then manipulate the statistics to show the cause as speed which is used as justification for installing a camera.

Burnt Truvelo

This Truvelo in Northampton bears all the hallmarks of a fire.

Burnt Truvelo

Also in Northampton is this leaning Truvelo.

Damaged Truvelo

This burnt Truvelo in Derby was installed just a few months ago. Cameras like this have very short lives.

Burnt Truvelo

This is another burnt Truvelo in Derbyshire. This one is on Chatsworth Road in Chesterfield.

Burnt Truvelo

This Truvelo is another Derbyshire camera to have been torched. This one is in Long Eaton and is one of three within a few hundred yards of each other. Will the other two be torched?

Burnt Truvelo

This is the rear view.

Burnt Truvelo

Here's yet another Truvelo in Derbyshire thats bitten the dust. This one is on the A6005, also in Long Eaton.

Burnt Truvelo

This wrecked Truvelo is on the A6005 near Beeston in Nottinghamshire.

Burnt Truvelo

Here are two Truvelos in Woodside Road, Nottingham. The one on the right has lost its camera housing. The tell tale scorch marks on the bottom of the post are a dead giveaway of whats happened.

Vandalised Truvelo

This is the first Monitron to have been vandalised. Monitrons (or Moneytrons as I like to call them) are supposed to be vandal proof but this picture clearly shows they are as vulnerable as Gatsos. This one on the A6005 is a combined red light camera that is also a speed camera on green.

Burnt Moneytron

This Gatso on the N3 just south of Navan in Ireland has been destroyed by fire.

Burnt Gatso

Here's a closeup showing the devastation.

Burnt Gatso

This Gatso on the R132 south of Balbriggan has also been set alight. The oil can has been left on top.

Burnt Truvelo

This red light Gatso in Rotterdam, Holland has been torched. Like Britain, Dutch roads are lined with cameras which are there to make money so they are being destroyed in large numbers. The lens has a grille over it to stop vandals but it doesn't seem to have worked in this case.

Burnt Gatso

The rear damage is mainly smoke but it goes to show that motorists in other countries are unhappy at the way cameras are being used as a form of stealth tax.

Burnt Gatso

This is another Burnt Gatso in Rotterdam. This one has some smoke damage plus the sides of the lens has been smashed.
