This Truvelo in Telford had a very short life. It was angle grinded about a month after it was installed.

Beheaded Truvelo

This is a closeup of the damage. Part of the wiring loom can be seen. All cameras have a police warning sticker but this fails to deter the vandals.

Beheaded Truvelo

This is the same camera two years later. Someone has set light to it but the fire didn't take hold.

Damaged Truvelo

This Truvelo on the A45 at Ryton has been sawn off and the pipe which contains the wire is hanging loose. The sign hides the camera from drivers view.

Sawn off Truvelo

Here's a closeup showing a sticker claiming to protect the camera. Such stickers tend to be fake and are supposed to deter vandals.

This camera is being protected - by what?

This Truvelo on the A605 Northamptonshire has had the camera housing sawn off. Fitting armco barriers doesn't stop the vandals, it just means it can't be driven in to.

This camera won't be earning any stealth tax for a while

Here's another sawn off Truvelo in Northamptonshire. This fine example can be found on the A508. This damage must be costing the scamera partnership dear especially as you have to consider the revenue which is being lost whilst its out of action.

Out of order

Even if armco is fitted it doesn't stop the camera being driven in to, especially if it's too close to the barrier. This Truvelo on the A14 appears to have been twisted by a passing lorry due to the camera housing being directly above the armco, so any tall vehicles striking the barrier also strike the camera. Better move the camera further away from the barrier, or better still, remove it altogether.

Installing cameras close to the armco is asking for trouble

This is a close up of the camera housing. The damage is minimal but as its pointing the wrong way it won't be earning any revenue.

Damaged Truvelo

This red light camera in Doncaster has been turned to face away from the road. Anyone jumping red lights here will still trigger the camera but it will take a picture of the pavement instead.

Twisted red light camera

This red light camera in Exeter is on a level crossing to catch motorists who go over the railway when the lights are flashing. How this camera came to be in this condition is hard to understand especially as going across a level crossing through a red light can have fatal consequences if crushed by a train.

Vandalised red light Gatso

This Gatso on the A429 has all sorts of damage. The left side of the post appears to have been forced open, the top of the camera housing has been crushed and so have the sides of the window containing the flash.

Another wrecked Gatso

This Gatso in Norfolk has been shot at with an air gun. The pellet holes can be clearly seen. The top window has also been shattered.

Gatsos are now being shot at

This Gatso is also in Norfolk as is only a few miles away from the one above. A sledgehammer was used in this attack.

Another wrecked Gatso

Someone has been going round all the Gatsos on the A51 between Stone and Rugeley in Staffordshire and spraying them with the letters BRAG which stands for Boy Racers Against Gatsos.

Wrecked Gatso

This is another BRAG Gatso on the A51. This one also has a hole punched through the radar strip.

Wrecked Gatso

This Gatso on Archway, London has been sprayed by the most famous anti scamera organisation of all - MAD or Motorists Against Detection.

Spray painted

This Gatso in Staffordshire has been covered with a black bag in an attempt to block the lens. Take a look at the windows of some of those houses, perhaps someone wanted to do the same to the Gatso.

Another Gatso temporarily disabled

This is the front view of the same camera. Unfortunately the wrong window is covered. The top window is the lens and it will still take pictures, but only during the day as the flash is covered up.

Another Gatso temporarily disabled

This Gatso has been covered in wrapping paper, probably as part of a Christmas joke. At least the right window is covered this time.

Covered Gatso

Someone has gone to a lot of effort to make their feelings known about this camera.

Revenue camera

This Gatso on the A40 near Uxbridge has been spray painted. The lenses have also been sprayed over, ruining any pictures that the camera may have taken.

Spray painted

Although this Gatso in Kent isn't physically damaged, graffiti is still vandalism. Someone has kindly written a message on this Gatso saying it isn't working. Even though it might be true, I don't trust messages like these. I would still advise you to stick to the limit when passing it.

Is this Gatso working?

The person responsible for scribbling on this camera needs a spelling lesson. This is one of several Truvelos that have just been installed in Kent and they are obviously not proving very popular. This camera is only a short distance from the one above and may have been attacked by the same person.

This camera has only just been installed

This Truvelo in Rushden has been sprayed with CUNT. People are obviously making their feelings known.

Defaced Truvelo

This Truvelo on Featherstall Road in Oldham has been spray painted. The lens has been covered and Dummy is written on it.

Defaced Truvelo

Another graffiti artist has painted a face on the back of this Gatso.

Getting caught by a Gatso is nothing to smile about

This Gatso has just been installed on the A38 in Worcester. Its not even switched on yet but the vandals have already struck. It would have been more effective to spray the lens rather than the back.

Another smiley Gatso

This Gatso in Burton on Trent has just been installed and its already been defaced (pun intended).

Smiley Gatso

This pair of Gatsos near Altrincham, Cheshire have been spray painted. The one on the A56 (left) has the lenses sprayed over, the one on the A538 also has the lenses sprayed as well as an X.

Spray painted

The windows of this Gatso in Mansfield have been spray painted in red paint.

A new type of infra red Gatso

Someone has attempted to block the lens of this Gatso by placing a glove in front of it. Unfortunately it seems to have slipped.

A rather unsuccessful attempt at blocking the lens

The lens of this Gatso in Dudley has been covered with a substance. The reason this Gatso was targeted could be because it is hidden behind a sign.

Blocked lens

This Gatso on the A5 in Staffordshire has been spray painted to cover the lens.

Blocked lens

This Gatso on the A58 near Wigan has also been spray painted.

Spray painted

This is another hand painted Gatso. I guess the intention was to make it bright.

Hand painted camera

This Gatso in Banbury has had paint poured over it and to great effect too, it is visible from quite a distance.

Bright Gatso

This Gatso in Cardiff has been covered in paint which includes the lens.

Painted Gatso

Some bikers are attempting to topple this Gatso by attaching a rope to it.

Pictures of attacks in action are rare

This Watchman camera was set alight after someone was caught by it but this type of camera isn't type approved so can't be used to issue tickets.

Wrecked Watchman

Gatsos are not the only type of speed camera being targeted by angry motorists. This DS2 post at Hollinsgate in Telford has been forced open and the wiring ripped to bits.

Plug and Pay point no longer working

This is one of two DS2 posts on Castle Farm Way in Telford that have been driven into.

DS2 wrecked

This is the other Plug and Pay point on Castle Farm Way that is wrecked.

DS2 wrecked

This is one of several SPECS poles in Northampton which were plastered in stealth tax stickers.

Stealth tax stickers

Its not just the cameras that are being targeted, the signs are also being covered in stickers.

This is the A508 approaching the A14. A Truvelo has been here for a while now but the limit was recently cut from 60mph to 40mph. Although it has been vandalised in the past, the Truvelo was undamaged when these pictures were taken.

Stealth tax stickers are spreading

This is a closeup of the last picture.

Stealth tax

This newly installed Truvelo at Shaw in Greater Manchester has had a sticker applied. The post and camera housing are plain black and I hope this is just a temporary measure until the camera goes live otherwise it is in breach of the visibility rules.
