This pole is typical of those found on suburban streets. In the days of open wire each house would have a wire running from an upper and lower insulator. Nowadays the separate wires are enclosed in a multicore cable and the insulators are no longer used. You can still see how many houses are served by this pole. On the top is a wooden finial but this is a pretty rotten example
